NOTE: This page is a “stub” due to this project being a work in progress!
As a continuation of my Senior Overview, I have been writing and developing my proposed visual novel, Historical Friction. Because this is an ongoing project, this portfolio entry is incomplete, with plans to be updated as I continue working on it. I’m using Trello to help my workflow, and it has helped tremendously in keeping my tasks organized.
writing the script
I’m using Twine to outline the game’s script. This helps me account for different endings based on player choices.

development
I am developing the game itself in Ren’Py, the engine best known for being the platform that Doki Doki Literature Club! was built on. The learning curve for Ren’Py is, thankfully, not very steep, and I am enjoying how customizable the engine is and how open the developer community is to sharing ideas and resources.
Because this project is post-curricular, I’ve had a bit of a tough time balancing working on this and doing my day job. To keep myself productive and accountable, I’ve been keeping monthly developer logs on the itch.io page for Historical Friction. Since this is an ongoing project, you can see more recent and specific updates there.
